Operating Principle Of Inductive Proximity Switches
Proximity sensors are the most common and available switches affordable switches for non contact object detection. The most commonly used proximity sensors are the inductive type which generates an electromagnetic field to sense metal objects passing close to the sensing free and generates the output signal.
The LC Oscillator circuit generates the electromagnetic field over the active face , energy is drawn from oscillator resulting damping of the oscillator. This change is detected by electronic circuit and is converted into an effective output signal.
Inductive Proximity Switches / Sensors can perceive the spaces between the objects by producing magnetic fields. Inductive Proximity Switches / Sensors are equivalent in standards to metal detectors. An electronic circuit measures an electrical current when a coil of wire is charged with this current. The Inductive Proximity switch will open or close accordingly, if a metallic part gets close enough to the coil and the current will increase. Inductive proximity Switches / Sensors is that they can detect only the metallic objects.

Sensing Distance
The sensing distance is the distance between the target and sensing face at which the switch operates. The sensing distance is usually specified considering M.S. as sensing objects.
